Syracuse men’s basketball overcame a 17-point deficit to defeat Notre Dame, 77-69, on Saturday evening at the JMA Wireless Dome, improving to 9-9 (3-4 ACC) and 8-3 at home.
J.J. Starling led the Orange with 21 points, while Eddie Lampkin Jr. posted his fourth consecutive double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kyle Cuffe Jr. added 13 points off the bench.
Notre Dame opened with a dominant 11-0 run, capitalizing on Syracuse’s slow start and defensive lapses. Burton’s hot hand powered the Irish to a 42-33 halftime lead, with 22 of his points coming in the first half. Syracuse, however, clawed back with key contributions from its bench, including a late first-half surge sparked by Cuffe and Elijah Moore, who combined for seven quick points to cut the deficit.
The Orange carried that momentum into the second half. Starling and Lampkin fueled the comeback with clutch plays, including a series of three-pointers and second-chance baskets. Starling tied the game with three free throws and later scored a go-ahead layup. Lampkin’s late-game rebounding and defensive efforts sealed the win.
