Three former correctional officers at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, New York, have pleaded guilty to violating an inmate’s civil rights by using unlawful force and lying to cover it up, federal prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Brandon Montanari, 34, Rohail Kahn, 28, and Michael Williams, 38, admitted to assaulting an inmate in April 2023, punching and kicking him without justification and causing bodily injury. All three men also acknowledged they conspired to lie during the internal investigation that followed.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York and the FBI’s Albany Field Office are leading the prosecution. The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michael F. Perry and Michael D. Gadarian.
Sentencing scheduled for summer 2025
Each defendant faces up to 10 years in federal prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencings are scheduled for late July and August 2025.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI with support from the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision’s Office of Special Investigations.
