Rand Paul joins TikTok in protest of ban

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul created a TikTok account on Saturday to protest the app’s impending ban. In a video, Paul described his action as civil disobedience, criticizing the government’s decision to restrict the platform, which he argued infringes on free speech.

Despite his protest, Paul did not vote against the ban when it passed Congress last year.

The app faces a shutdown on Sunday unless its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, sells its U.S. operations. President-elect Donald Trump has proposed a 90-day delay to seek a resolution.
