New York drivers with significant unpaid tolls can now be banned from the state’s 570-mile Thruway under a new regulation adopted by the Thruway Authority.
The rule allows temporary or permanent bans for violators, with enforcement handled by State Police Troop T using license plate scanners. Most unpaid toll debt comes from out-of-state trucking companies, with one Montreal firm owing over $500,000.
While New Jersey has a reciprocity agreement with New York to address toll evasion, Connecticut has not, complicating enforcement efforts across state lines.
