According to Politico, the campaign supporting New York’s Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has spent heavily on consultants and overhead, with only 16% of its funds directed toward voter outreach.
Despite initial plans for a $20 million effort to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution, spending delays allowed opponents to dominate early messaging. A $2.4 million ad blitz is now planned for the campaign’s final days.
Democrats remain concerned that mismanaged funds and delayed advertising could impact voter turnout, despite polls showing broad support for the amendment.
