Several new laws take effect in New York next year, impacting wages, healthcare, and consumer rights. The minimum wage will rise by 50 cents to $16.50 in NYC and $15.50 elsewhere. New York will also offer 20 hours of paid prenatal leave for all employees.

Other changes include telemarketer identification requirements, mental injury worker’s compensation, a ban on car lease “turn-in” fees, and mandatory diaper ingredient disclosures.

The Equal Rights Amendment expands anti-discrimination protections, while a controversial Manhattan congestion toll begins January 5.
