A heartbreaking fire in the early hours of December 18 has left a Junius home destroyed, prompting an outpouring of community support to help the victim recover.
The blaze, which started as an electrical fire in the kitchen, consumed the home of Edward Townson’s father, despite initial efforts to contain the flames. Townson managed to suppress the fire temporarily but, after shutting off the power downstairs, the flames reignited and swiftly engulfed the entire structure. Fortunately, Townson’s father escaped the burning house unharmed.

Crews from the Junius Fire Department, Clyde-Galen Fire District, and additional units from three counties rushed to the scene. Given the intensity of the blaze, firefighters focused on an exterior attack, with tanker trucks continuously supplying water to combat the inferno. Despite their efforts, the home was declared a total loss and had to be demolished to fully extinguish lingering hotspots and prevent rekindling.
No injuries were reported, but the fire has left Townson’s father displaced and with most of his belongings destroyed. He now faces the difficult task of rebuilding his life, a burden exacerbated by limited financial resources.
In response to the tragedy, longtime family friend Mike Stephany launched a GoFundMe campaign to help Townson’s father recover. Stephany, who has been friends with Ted Townson for 20 years, described Edward as “an amazing guy” and urged the community to contribute during the holiday season.
The campaign is now live, and donations are being accepted to aid the Townson family as they work toward recovery.
