The USDA announced a $1.13 billion investment to boost local food systems, supporting schools, child care centers, and feeding programs. This funding builds on previous Local Food Purchase Assistance and Local Food for Schools programs.
States, territories, and tribes will use the funds to buy local foods for schools and underserved communities. Allocations include $471.5 million for school meal programs and $188.6 million for child care facilities.
The initiative, launched during the pandemic, has strengthened local markets and supply chains, benefiting thousands of farmers and food banks nationwide.
