Huawei is struggling to keep up with overwhelming demand for its Mate 70 smartphones, according to He Gang, CEO of the company’s consumer business group. He told state media on Thursday that over 6.7 million reservations have been made since the phone’s launch, far outpacing initial supply expectations.
Released as the successor to the Mate 60, the Mate 70 highlights Huawei’s advancements in locally produced chips despite U.S. sanctions. The device also debuts HarmonyOS NEXT, Huawei’s fully Android-free operating system, signaling the company’s push for software independence. Analysts caution, however, that supply challenges could emerge, particularly in chip production.
He noted that fine-tuning HarmonyOS NEXT’s user experience may take months but assured that all 2025 models will feature the new operating system.
