Authorities say a Corning man faces serious charges after holding a pillow over a woman’s face and sexually abusing a 12-year-old child in two separate incidents.
Vernon Vanzile III, 43, of Corning was taken into custody on November 19 after police investigated a domestic incident.

Police say Vanzile, who is registered as a Level 3 sex offender, sexually abused a child. He’s accused of holding a woman inside the home against her will on November 18, attempting to suffocate her with a pillow during the incident.
A separate incident involving a child came to light as authorities investigated.
Vanzile has been charged with second-degree strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon, and attempted predatory sexual assault against a child, as well as first-degree attempted rape and criminal sex act and sex abuse.
All of those charges are felonies. He’s being held without bail until his next court appearance.
