A fatal motorcycle accident on November 7 has claimed the life of a passenger, identified as Keley Smith-Krocke, 36, of Marion. The Newark Police Department, along with local emergency services, responded to the crash at approximately 4:44 p.m. in the area of 427 West Union Street.
Preliminary findings suggest that the motorcycle driver veered onto the sidewalk and attempted to re-enter the roadway, resulting in a loss of control. This caused Smith-Krocke to be thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency responders, including a Newark Volunteer Fire Department member, began CPR on Smith-Krocke before she was transported to Newark Wayne Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The Wayne County Crash Team is assisting the Newark Police Department with a detailed reconstruction of the crash as the investigation continues.
