The Finger Lakes Community College women’s volleyball team secured a fourth consecutive Region III championship on Sunday with a commanding 3-0 victory over SUNY Adirondack, adding another milestone to their growing legacy. The Lakers advanced to the final after sweeping Monroe Community College in the semifinals on Saturday.
With this title, FLCC becomes the first team since Jamestown Community College in 1998 to win four straight Region III championships. Head Coach Andrew Solomon praised his team’s resilience, saying, “Any time we were challenged, the team stepped up and showed tremendous resiliency. Every girl on the roster was able to get in the match and contribute—I’m very proud of the entire team.”
Standout performances included freshman Kayce Hennekey, who earned tournament MVP honors with 8 kills and a solo block in the final, and setter Payton Stoddard, who delivered 31 assists. With a 28-2 record and a 27-match win streak, the Lakers are poised for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament, with seeding to be announced November 5.
