Penn Yan schools appoint Baker as new superintendent

The Penn Yan Central School District has appointed Dr. Gregory Baker as its new superintendent, set to begin his role on January 1, 2025. He has served as the district’s Assistant Superintendent for Instruction & Staff Development for nearly a decade, brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership, instructional development, and community engagement.

In his previous role, Dr. Baker led the design and coordination of the district’s PK-12 instructional programs, focusing on student learning improvements and staff development. His background also includes positions as Director of Educational Services at Lyons Central School District and as a Reading Specialist with Byron-Bergen CSD, underscoring his commitment to academic excellence and support for all learners.

David Willson, President of the Board of Education, praised Dr. Baker’s selection, crediting the community’s input in the hiring process. “It became clear that Dr. Baker’s extensive experience and commitment to our district aligned perfectly with our needs,” Willson stated, emphasizing the board’s dedication to securing the best leader for Penn Yan schools.

Dr. Baker expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “I am incredibly honored to continue serving the Penn Yan community as Superintendent. With a focus on academic excellence, supporting the whole child, and empowering our staff, I am committed to advancing our mission of Engaging, Educating, Empowering, and Enriching every student, every day.”

The district also extended its appreciation to Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES District Superintendent Lynne Rutnik and her team for their assistance in facilitating the search process.
