Governor Kathy Hochul announced a $10 million initiative aimed at advancing the development of zero-emission single-family homes and townhomes in New York State. The program, titled “Building Better Homes – Zero Emission Homes for Healthier Communities,” will provide financial incentives to builders and developers, encouraging them to design, construct, and market eco-friendly and resilient housing options.
“New homes built to the latest clean energy and efficiency standards will ensure greener, healthier housing is available to all New Yorkers while helping pave the way toward a more sustainable future,” said Hochul during an announcement in Albany. The initiative aligns with New York’s aggressive climate agenda, which seeks to curb emissions and reduce fossil fuel dependency across the state.
The program, managed by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), will offer up to $7,000 per single-family home and $4,000 per townhome, with additional funds for projects in disadvantaged communities. It will also support the training of builders in meeting clean energy standards.
With more than 10,000 new homes being built annually in New York, the initiative aims to accelerate the transition to zero-emission homes and contribute to the state’s goal of achieving two million climate-friendly homes by 2030.
