Residents of Phelps are set to receive cleaner water and enhanced fire protection as the Town Board advances a major water main extension cleared of environmental hurdles under the State Environmental Quality Review Act.
The board determined that the Pelis Road Water District Extension No. 1 will not have a significant adverse environmental impact.
The project plans to install approximately 21,000 feet of eight-inch water main along Pelis Road, extending through DeWindt Road, Bell Road, and County Road 25, and connecting to existing systems, including the village of Newark’s transmission main on Route 88.
An emergency connection to Arcadia may also be included if that town extends its water service. This initiative aims to address issues with substandard private wells, providing residents with a reliable and safe water supply. The new system will also feature fire hydrants, enhancing fire protection for the community.
