The Finger Lakes Community College men’s soccer team achieved a crucial 2-1 victory over No. 10-ranked Genesee Community College on Wednesday, improving their record to 11-3-3 and extending their winning streak to seven. This pivotal win comes as the Lakers prepare for the playoffs, showcasing both their resilience and strength.
Joao Antonio Rocha made FLCC history, breaking the program’s all-time career assist record with 28 assists, surpassing the previous record set by Eric Marsh in 1997. Rocha’s record-breaking assist came in the 14th minute, setting up Carlos Aguiar’s equalizer following Genesee’s opening goal by Casper Jaartsveld.
The game-winner arrived in the 70th minute as Daniel Odejayo, assisted by Robin Giesing, found the back of the net. Goalkeeper Aiden Nelson anchored the Lakers’ defense, saving five of six shots. FLCC next faces Jamestown Community College on October 12, aiming for their eighth straight win.
