A 39-year-old man from Penn Yan, who fled the Clifton Springs Hospital before a mental health evaluation, was found by authorities on the afternoon of September 10, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
Forest Rangers and Ontario County Sheriff’s Deputies were alerted when the man was spotted at a residence in Clifton Springs. When deputies arrived, the man ran into the nearby woods. A search ensued, and at 3:45 p.m., Forest Ranger Cordell and a Sheriff’s Deputy located the man in a garden on Route 488, where they convinced him to remain.
The man’s wife later arrived to take him home, and the situation was resolved without further incident. All resources were cleared by 4:30 p.m.
