The #11 Finger Lakes Community College women’s volleyball team made a powerful statement in their first home matches of the season, securing back-to-back sweeps against #8 Monroe University – Bronx and Dutchess Community College. The Lakers, now 5-2 on the season, showcased their dominance with another upset victory, led by standout performances from setter Payton Stoddard and freshman Clara Roig Lloveras.
In their match against Monroe University – Bronx, Stoddard directed the offense with 30 assists and added 5 service aces, bringing her career total to 993 assists. Roig Lloveras was unstoppable at the net, delivering 15 kills with a .571 hitting percentage and contributing a match-high 18.5 points. The Lakers continued their momentum with a commanding 3-0 win over Dutchess Community College, highlighted by Roig Lloveras’ error-free 13 kills on 17 attempts, hitting an impressive .765.
With solid contributions from the entire team, including strong defensive efforts by Michelina Williams and Emily Jordan, the Lakers extended their winning streak to four. They now prepare for a brief break before returning to action on September 7th at SUNY Adirondack Community College, where they will face SUNY Adirondack and Hudson Valley Community College in a Region III Pod.
