The Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) women’s volleyball team kicked off the 2024 season with a statement win at the NJCAA Opening Weekend Tournament in Rockford, Illinois. The Lakers, ranked #11, stunned #2 Century College in a five-set thriller, securing a 3-2 victory (23-25, 25-22, 10-25, 25-23, 15-12). Setter Payton Stoddard led the charge with 34 assists and 16 digs, while freshman Clara Roig Lloveras added 10 kills in her debut.
The Lakers continued their strong performance, narrowly losing 3-2 to #5 College of DuPage, despite a valiant effort. Freshman Anna Kurtzhalts led the offense with 11 kills, while sophomore Michelina Williams anchored the defense with 22 digs. FLCC wrapped up the tournament with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Triton College, led by Lloveras’ nine kills and Williams’ 12 digs.
FLCC returns to action on August 27 at Onondaga Community College before hosting Monroe College Bronx and Dutchess Community College on August 31. The Lakers’ promising start sets high expectations for the season ahead in NJCAA Region III.
