A second horse in Cayuga County has died from Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), the Health Department announced on August 29.
The most recent case occurred in Red Creek, following a similar incident earlier this month in Cato.
This summer has seen multiple horse fatalities due to mosquito-borne illnesses in the region, including a death from EEE in Madison County and a West Nile Virus case in Oswego County.
Local health officials continue to urge caution and preventative measures to protect animals from these dangerous viruses.
