FLCC Women’s Volleyball Team Poised for Another Championship Run

With three consecutive NJCAA Region III titles under their belt, the Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) women’s volleyball team is gearing up for another promising season in 2024. Led by Head Coach Andrew Solomon, now in his seventh season, the Lakers are focused on extending their streak of success at both the regional and national levels. The team’s depth, bolstered by standout sophomores Michelina Williams and Payton Stoddard, positions them as formidable contenders once again.

The 2023 season saw the Lakers dominate. The Lakers won 16 straight matches and secured the Mid-State Athletic Conference Championship with a sweep over SUNY Broome. Williams and Stoddard, who earned multiple conference and regional accolades, were instrumental in leading the team to a 25-3 record and a national ranking of 11th. This year, they’ll be joined by a talented group of returning players and promising freshmen, adding to the team’s versatility and depth.

Coach Solomon emphasizes that team chemistry will be crucial for success this season, given the geographic diversity of the roster. “Our biggest focus this year is to come together and gel as a team,” Solomon stated. With high hopes of another regional title and a national championship run, the Lakers are set to continue their legacy of excellence.
