Clifton Springs Gas Station Demolished Due to Soil Contamination

A gas station in Clifton Springs was demolished after the DEC confirmed soil contamination at the site. Located at the corner of Kendall and West Main Streets, the station was torn down following reports of a gas leak or spill.

The issue was discovered on July 31 when a tank failed a test, with two more tanks failing on August 8. Reid Petroleum, the station’s owner, emptied the tanks as a precaution.

The DEC stated that groundwater tests showed no new petroleum contamination.

Further investigations by the DEC are ongoing.
