Boil water order issued for village of Cato

Residents in the Village of Cato are under a boil water order after a water main break on Tuesday, August 13, caused a significant loss of pressure in the public water system.

The Cayuga County Health Department warns that the drop in pressure could allow harmful microbes to enter the water supply. Officials advise residents to boil tap water for one minute before use or opt for bottled water certified by the New York State Department of Health.

Repairs are underway, and water samples will be tested to ensure safety. The boil water order is expected to remain in place for several days, with updates to follow.
