Three Penn Yan Academy seniors have each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Johnson-Costello Post #355 of the American Legion in Penn Yan. The awards were presented at the Post’s monthly membership meeting on June 12.
The scholarships, funded by a generous donation from the estate of Martha Rouin, a World War II veteran and mother of former Yates County Veterans’ Service Officer Phil Rouin, were given in her memory. The recipients impressed the Scholarship Committee with their outstanding applications and interviews.
The winners are Addyson Webber, who will attend Elmira College to pursue fine arts and entrepreneurship; Mason Bush, who will study at Finger Lakes Community College with aspirations to become a state conservation officer; and Rachael Garvey, who plans to attend SUNY Geneseo to become a sports and exercise psychologist.
