The Village of Newark has added a familiar face to its workforce, hiring Carlos Martinez as a full-time heavy equipment operator in the Department of Public Works.
Martinez, who first joined the department as an intern in spring 2025 through Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES, transitioned to a seasonal role before earning a full-time position after obtaining his Class B commercial driver’s license.
Village officials said Martinez completed his CDL training this winter at Canandaigua Driving School, passing his driving test on his first attempt as part of the hiring process.
Martinez, a Newark resident, studied heavy equipment operations and repair through BOCES and has steadily advanced within the department over the past year.
Mayor Jonathan Taylor praised Martinez’s work ethic and development, saying he has demonstrated the ability to grow into the role and has a strong future with the village.
