CHILD TAX CREDIT: New York parents will receive checks in August

Low-income parents in New York will start receiving child tax credit checks by the end of August, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday. The state will distribute approximately $350 million in supplemental payments through the Empire State Child Credit program.

Parents need not take any action to receive the payments, which are based on their income from the most recent tax year. Eligible families will get up to $330 per child, provided they received at least $100 from the Empire State Child Credit in their last tax filings.

The supplemental payments were included in this year’s state budget approved in April. However, continued funding for these payments next year will require approval in the 2025 state budget.

State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins emphasized the importance of these payments in helping families cope with rising costs, highlighting the government’s role in alleviating financial burdens for New York families.
