Rep. James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee, has subpoenaed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to testify about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Cheatle had agreed to attend but faced delays from Homeland Security officials, prompting the subpoena.
Comer criticized the lack of cooperation and transparency, questioning Cheatle’s leadership. Cheatle stated the agency will fully participate in President Biden’s review and congressional investigations.
The 20-year-old shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by Secret Service snipers after wounding Trump and others at a Pennsylvania rally. The incident has led to multiple investigations into the security failures surrounding the event.
