Donald Trump, 78, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pa., on Saturday. A 20-year-old gunman fired a shot that grazed Trump’s ear, leaving him with minor injuries.
President Joe Biden and Trump both called for calm and unity. “There is no place for violence in America,” Biden said in a televised address. Trump, arriving in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, emphasized unity in his remarks.
The FBI identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa., who was killed by Secret Service agents. One rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed while protecting his family. Two others were injured and are in stable condition.
