Geneva City Council voted 6-2 on Wednesday to amend the short-term rental ordinance initially passed in 2023.
The changes remove the need for special-use permits and adjust parking requirements to match those for residential use.
Councilor Chris Lavin opposed allowing short-term rentals citywide, suggesting they be limited to downtown and South Main Street. Lavin and Councilor Ahmad Whitfield voted against the new measures.
The revised ordinance also introduces a fee of $250 per bedroom per year for rental operators.
