One dead after Cayuga County house fire

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

First responders were called to an overnight structure fire involving a mobile home in Victory. Now, it’s being investigated after a person died in the blaze.

It was the second major structure fire of the day in Cayuga County, as crews were earlier called to a structure fire in Locke that destroyed a home.

Our partners at the Cayuga/Seneca Fire Wire reported that Victory, Plainville, Aurelius, Cato, Conquest, Fair Haven, Wolcott, Red creek, Ira Fire, Oswego Town RIT and Lake Shore Ambulance responded to the scene on McNeely Road.

The home was destroyed by the blaze, which according to first responders, was fully-involved upon their arrival.

A 59-year-old died in the blaze while a 78-year-old survived. No additional information was immediately available.
