The New York Mets (30-37) scored just one run through the first eight innings on Thursday night and trailed entering the ninth before J.D. Martinez crushed his first career walk-off home run to give the Mets a 3-2 victory over the Miami Marlins (23-45) and a series win.
Francisco Lindor opened the ninth with a walk, Brandon Nimmo struck out, and Martinez cranked a 3-1 slider off Marlins closer Tanner Scott for a walk-off two-run home run.
Luis Severino fired six innings of one-run ball but gave up seven hits and three walks. Drew Smith, Sean Reid-Foley, and Edwin Díaz posted scoreless outings to give the team a chance in the ninth.
The Mets will continue their homestand on Friday when they begin a three-game series with the San Diego Padres. The first pitch is set for 7:10 p.m.
