City officials are reviewing a request from the downtown Business Improvement District (BID) to change the zoning code to require a 2,000-foot separation between licensed cannabis retail dispensaries.
The BID’s request was discussed at a City Council Ordinance Committee meeting on May 23.
The city has allowed licensed dispensaries to operate under similar rules as tobacco or liquor stores.
However, the BID’s request aims to impose stricter distance regulations. City staff expressed concerns that the state might find a 2,000-foot separation invalid, as it treats cannabis shops differently than other retail businesses.
