Seneca Falls man dies in Hopewell crash: Sheriff says speed and alcohol factors

Ontario County Sheriff David Cirencione says a Seneca Falls man has died after a crash on State Route 488 and Petit Road in the town of Hopewell on Tuesday.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. and claimed the life of Curtis Wright, 55, of Seneca Falls.

First responders were tipped off about the crash via iPhone crash alert, according to a news release. They say upon arrival to the scene, deputies found a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro with heavy front-end damage.

Upon investigation, the vehicle was found to be traveling west when it left the north shoulder of Route 488 – striking a mailbox, and then large tree. Deputies observed Wright inside the vehicle.

Canandaigua Emergency Squad personnel arrived on-scene and confirmed that Wright was deceased. Route 488 was shut down between Freshour and Petit roads while reconstruction crews investigated the crash.

It was eventually reopened three-and-a-half hours later. Sheriff Cirencione said in a news release that the investigation remains active. However, speed and alcohol appear to be factors.
