Geneva eyes redevelopment of city plaza destroyed by fire in 2022

  • Staff Report

After nearly two years since a fire devastated a plaza on the corner of Castle and Oak streets, a redevelopment plan is in the works to transform the property into a multi-use development.

The proposal, to be considered at Wednesday’s City Council meeting, seeks funding through the Restore NY program to revitalize the site, known as the Madia’s parcel.

Since the fire in May 2022, the plaza has remained a blight on the neighborhood, fenced off due to extensive damage.

The proposed project involves demolishing part of the plaza and constructing a new mixed-use building with commercial space on the first floor and affordable housing units on the second.
