The iconic Huntington Building, an 1870s manufacturing plant at 201 Fall St., was nearly demolished for a new convenience store and gas station.
Instead, it is being converted into 53 apartments, with construction set to complete by December and tenants moving in by January.
The $18.7 million renovation, funded in part by a state grant, features Energy Star appliances, central air, a community room, playground, and fitness center.
The building, renamed Huntington Apartments, includes a mix of studio and one-bedroom units, with 25 units reserved for households earning up to 60% of the area median income.
