Lansing man sentenced for embezzling nearly $300,000 from local business

Scott J. Brenchley of Lansing has been sentenced to 1.5 to 4.5 years in state prison for embezzling nearly $300,000 from a Cayuga County agricultural business. The sentencing occurred this morning, following Brenchley’s guilty plea on January 9 for second-degree grand larceny.

From July 2022 through May 2023, Brenchley, while employed as the company’s controller, misappropriated over $280,000 through forged checks and unauthorized credit card purchases, including sports memorabilia. The court also ordered Brenchley to repay the stolen amount in full as restitution to the victimized business.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant District Attorney Chris Valdina and investigated by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, culminating in this week’s sentencing as announced by District Attorney Brittany Grome Antonacci.
