Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer revealed that Micron Technology has secured a preliminary $6.1 billion funding agreement for its semiconductor manufacturing projects in New York and Idaho. The funding, announced Wednesday, is part of the federal CHIPS and Science Law aimed at bolstering U.S. chip production.
The deal supports Micron’s ambitious plan to construct four chip fabrication plants in Central New York, near Syracuse, with a projected investment of $100 billion. This initiative is expected to create significant economic growth and job opportunities in the region.
The funding agreement is still pending a review by the Commerce Department. New York Governor Kathy Hochul praised the development, highlighting its potential to generate 50,000 jobs and substantial community benefits, driven by federal and state collaboration.
