The Finger Lakes National Forest celebrated the return of its annual Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 4, marking the event’s 26th year. Held at Potomac Pond from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., the derby welcomed young anglers aged two to 12, who competed for prizes based on their catches.
Participants and their families enjoyed a morning of fishing and refreshments at the event, which required prior registration by May 1. The derby was limited to the first 100 children registered to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees, with adequate food and beverages provided.
Interested parties were instructed to contact the Hector Ranger Station for registration and any questions. The community was also invited to get involved, with opportunities for volunteering at the event highlighted by the forest officials.
