  • Staff Report

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on a car vs pedestrian accident that happened on Preemption Road near Havens Corners Road on Sunday.

Deputies say they responded along with Benton Fire and Penn Yan Ambulance for the report of a car-pedestrian accident a little before 9 p.m.

Investigation revealed that Shawn Martin, 20, of Weedsport, who was operating a vehicle was traveling southwest on Preemption when he struck a dog and Elizabeth Schomp, 28, of Penn Yan.

Schomp was treated at the scene by first responders and sent to Geneva General Hospital for a lower leg injury.

Deputies didn’t provide an update on the condition of the dog; nor did they identify if the driver was at fault in the crash.

No tickets had been issued as of a late-Monday update.
