Dale Sutton, a 49-year-old man from Bath, was arrested in connection with a car theft and subsequent damage in Yates County, authorities confirmed. The stolen vehicle was initially taken on January 22nd from a business in the village of Penn Yan and later found abandoned with significant front-end damage on Bath Road in the town of Barrington.
Sutton has been charged with grand larceny and criminal tampering following an investigation by Penn Yan Police, who utilized cell phone tower data and collaborated with multiple law enforcement agencies to identify him. The multi-agency effort included the New York State Police, the New York State Intelligence Center, and sheriff’s offices from Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates counties.
Currently held at the Steuben County Jail on unrelated felony charges, Sutton’s case adds to a complex legal situation, with authorities continuing to probe the details of the vehicle theft and damage.
