Cornell University announced that a former master’s student has been charged with second-degree harassment after he allegedly spat on a Muslim student last month in Collegetown. The university identified the accused as 25-year-old Salim Dridi, who was a student at the time of the incident but is no longer enrolled.

The act was condemned by Cornell’s Vice President for University Relations, Joel M. Malina, who expressed dismay over the involvement of a university community member in such a “vile act.” Dridi faces additional charges for unrelated vandalism, including damaging a glass door and triggering fire alarms earlier in the month.

Cornell University credited the Ithaca Police Department and Cornell University Police Department for their “swift work and collaboration” in apprehending Dridi, highlighting the community’s commitment to safety and respect among students.
