Lacy J. Youells, a former employee at LaValley Brothers Construction in Wolcott, was arrested on charges of grand larceny and identity theft after stealing $8,750 from the company. The theft, reported to state police on January 15, was discovered shortly after Youells left the company on January 11. She attempted to repay the stolen funds using a credit card opened fraudulently in the company owner’s name.

Further investigation revealed that Youells had made an additional $3,193.04 in unauthorized purchases from Amazon. The deceit unfolded when Capital One contacted Oscar LaValley about a credit card opened under his name, which he had not authorized. The card’s discovery coincided tragically with a family bereavement, adding to the LaValley family’s distress.

Youells was taken into custody on April 12 and faced arraignment in Wayne County CAP Court, where she was released pending further court proceedings. The case is expected to move to a grand jury, as the community and Youells’ own family grapple with the scope of her actions.
