Thruway Authority issues warning after text scam

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The New York State Thruway Authority has issued an alert about a phishing scam targeting customers through text messages. These fraudulent messages, claiming to be from “Tollsbymailny,” falsely inform recipients they have unpaid tolls and direct them to a website, tollsinfonyc.com, for payment. The Thruway Authority advises individuals to ignore these messages and refrain from clicking any links.

This scam is not associated with E-ZPass or any legitimate toll collection agencies connected to it, as clarified by the Thruway Authority. Scammers are attempting to deceive recipients into divulging personal information under the guise of paying tolls.

Customers are urged to delete such messages immediately and avoid visiting the provided website. The Thruway Authority emphasizes that E-ZPass New York does not solicit birth dates or other personal information through unsolicited text messages, highlighting the importance of vigilance against such fraudulent activities.
