Sabres roll past Red Wings to inch closer to playoff spot

Bowen Byram tallied a pair of goals, and Zach Benson added a goal and two assists to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 7-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at KeyBank Center on Tuesday night.

Alex Tuch, Jeff Skinner, Connor Clifton, and JJ Peterka also scored for Buffalo (31-30-5), who inched closer to the second Wild Card spot as they sit five points out. Tage Thompson and Jordan Greenway each picked up a pair of assists.


Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 22-of-25 shots to earn his 21st win of the season.

The Sabres will try to make it three consecutive wins when they host the New York Islanders on Thursday at 7 p.m.
