Hornell ready for downtown work: Residents react to upcoming construction

Hornell’s downtown area is set to undergo significant construction starting next Monday, with traffic barrels already placed in preparation. This project is part of a $10 million downtown revitalization initiative funded by the state in 2019, aiming to enhance the streetscapes and alleyways.

Local business owners have expressed optimism about the construction’s potential to attract more people to downtown Hornell. They highlighted the collaborative effort required to transform Hornell into a destination that encourages shopping and exploration among the community members.

Residents are also looking forward to improvements, citing safety and aesthetics as significant benefits. Officials have also noted that Main Street’s trees were removed in anticipation of the project and will be replanted upon completion, signaling a comprehensive approach to the downtown area’s rejuvenation.
