In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Taste NY, a program dedicated to promoting New York State food, beverages, and agritourism, two new social media contests were launched last week. These contests, part of a yearlong series of events by the state Agriculture Department, mark the end of a milestone year for Taste NY, which has generated over $100 million in economic impact for New York State producers since its inception.
The first contest involves “selfie stations” at Taste NY Markets located in the 10 regional Welcome Centers across the state. Participants, including both New Yorkers and visitors, can enter the contest by taking a photo at these stations and posting it on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #TasteTurns10. Each selfie station provides a QR code with instructions for entering the contest. Contestants stand a chance to win gift baskets filled with New York-made products and gift cards to ShopTasteNY.com. Entries for the gift basket contest must be submitted by December 31, with winners to be drawn in early January.
Alongside the selfie station contest, Taste NY Markets and regional Welcome Centers are hosting a virtual trivia contest. This contest revolves around the annual Christmas tree toppers displayed at each location, each highlighting a different New York agricultural commodity. Participants must guess the commodities featured in the tree toppers based on weekly trivia questions posted on social media. Correct guesses entered via a linked form could win participants a $25 gift card to ShopTasteNY.com. The contest runs until December 11, when the tree toppers will be unveiled, with weekly winners announced each Friday. These contests aim to engage the public in celebrating New York’s rich agricultural heritage and the success of the Taste NY program.
