Former Auburn police officer pleads guilty to sexually abusing 14-year-old

A former Auburn Police officer confessed in Cayuga County Court to sexually abusing a 14-year-old student while serving as a school resource officer at Auburn High School.

On Thursday, William Morrissey III, , 33, admitted to explicit sexual conduct and inappropriate video interactions with the student in February 2022, leading to his guilty plea to first-degree sexual abuse and disseminating indecent material to minors, both class D felonies, according to The Citizen.

Morrissey is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 21, facing two years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for the sexual abuse charge, the minimum sentence for the offense.

Concurrently, he will serve one to three years for disseminating indecent material and 364 days in Cayuga County Jail for misconduct and endangering charges.

He remains out on bail until the sentencing date. Initially, the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office had recommended four years in state prison and 10 years of post-release supervision for the sexual abuse charge.
