Newark Village Police responded to a hit-and-run incident on Friday, August 25.

The driver, identified as 61-year-old David Velazquez of Newark, was apprehended at 4:51 p.m. Velazquez faced a slew of charges including Felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and Aggravated DWI. Testing revealed a blood alcohol content of .24%, three times the legal limit.

Following the arrest, Velazquez’s vehicle was towed, and he was transported to the Wayne County jail.

Records indicate this isn’t Velazquez’s first run-in with the law, as he has two prior DWI convictions. The case is set to move from the Newark Village Court to the County Court.
