The Seneca Falls Town Board is set to convene Tuesday to deliberate the adoption of a new host community agreement with Texas-based Seneca Meadows Inc. (SMI).
The agreement, which was presented at an August board meeting following extended negotiations, mandates various regulations and benefits for the town, contingent upon SMI obtaining a state permit for its landfill expansion on Route 414.
Among the stipulations, SMI is to execute an odor control management system, ban construction and waste vehicles from Seneca Falls’ downtown, and provide free garbage collection for town residents.
In exchange, the town could receive financial perks including a $1 million signing bonus, an additional $2 million upon obtaining necessary permits, and $10 million annually for 15 years.
While no final decision has been made by the DEC yet, there are a number of possible legal challenges from opposing groups over Seneca Meadows’ expansion.
