Pete Alonso homers twice as Mets snap six-game skid with win over Cubs

Pete Alonso homered twice as the New York Mets (51-61) snapped a six-game skid with an 11-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs (58-55) Monday night at Citi Field after a two-hour and nine-minute rain delay.

Alonso smacked a three-run shot to open the scoring in the first inning and crushed a two-run home run in the third. Alonso, who also added a run-scoring single, has 33 home runs this season, the third-most in Major League Baseball.

Danny Mendick belted a three-run homer, and Jonathan Arauz plated a run with a bases-loaded walk.

Kodai Senga tossed six innings of two-run ball while walking two and striking out six. The right-hander improved to 8-6 on the season.

The Mets will try to win the series on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. with Carlos Carrasco slated to start.
